Story allusion
Han Yu, posthumously Wengong, was a Tang scholar-official. After criticizing the emperor's reception of a Buddhist relic, he was demoted to Chaozhou. At Lan Pass, heavy snow blocked the road and his horse would not advance, fulfilling lines earlier spoken by his nephew Han Xiangzi. Han Yu then understood the warning; later stories say he gave away his wealth, entered the mountains, and cultivated the Way.
